It’s been a whole year since we celebrated Canada’s 150th, and it was so much fun the Prairie Dog Central is ready to do it all over again! There is no better way to celebrate this special day than with a trip aboard the Prairie Dog Central, Canada’s oldest regularly scheduled operating vintage Steam Locomotive. Relax aboard our vintage coaches as we travel through the blooming Prairies making our way to the rural community of Grosse Isle. Tap your toes as the Audayo Brothers offer live onboard entertainment. During the stopover, make your way through the newly renovated Heritage Village, indulge in the goodies freshly prepared by the vendors or enjoy more live music. Canada Day is always a celebration so you must join us for cake back at Inkster Junction Station!

Thursday, July 5 – Heritage Village Picnic (Buy here)

Today we make our way up the line from Inkster Junction Station to the Grosse Isle Heritage Village. Visit with friends as you take a leisurely ride aboard the 1900 era beautifully restored coaches. Awaiting our arrival will be freshly prepared sandwiches, creamy Caesar salad and chips plus a warm or cold drink followed by bite-size dessert. Take time to visit the beautifully restored Heritage House, East Rosser School and take a moment in the Church during the stopover. This weekday picnic is ideal for larger groups and family gatherings. This event sells out, so early booking is recommended.

This trip is ideal for railway enthusiasts, those interested in history or for passengers just wanting a relaxing train ride. Join us as our onboard historian discusses Canadian railroading as it was over 100 years ago. Marvel at the beauty of the open prairie landscapes while the Prairie Dog Central's onboard volunteer shares stories of how steam locomotive No. 3 and our vintage passenger coaches played a fundamental role in the development of the Canada we know and love. Bring along your home-prepared lunch or indulge in a freshly prepared hotdog or smokie during the stopover. Make sure you leave space for the delicious made-from-scratch home baked pies or an ice cream cone for dessert. Walk through the cab of No. 3 and take a stroll through the beautifully restored Heritage House, East Rosser School and the Grosse Isle United Church. This Event is a firm favourite because it’s slow paced, fun and is an informative way to share your day with family and friends.

Rumour in the world of railroading is that those irritating horseback robbers are on the loose and considering their next ambush. Remain vigilant as we make every effort to avoid this gang of thieves. We are hoping for an uninterrupted trip to Grosse Isle but we must stay alert and report any suspicious activity. We never know what we may encounter during this hilarious, entertaining and interactive trip. On arrival pick up a freshly prepared hotdog or smokie or enjoy your own home prepared lunch, but be sure to stop by for some delicious home baked goodies or an ice cream cone. Take a stroll through the beautifully restored Heritage House, East Rosser School and take a moment in the Church. Find your seat and get ready to enjoy some live music performed by Fire and Ice.

Back by popular demand, hop onboard for a day that is going to be a complete sensory overload. There's something for everyone on the PDCR today! The Audayo Brothers will entertain with onboard live music as we make our way to Grosse Isle. There are balloon animals for the kids, as well stop by the caboose for a temporary tattoo. Visit the volunteers in the Heritage House, East Rosser School and take a moment in the Church. A magic show wfun-filledp this fun filled day before we head back to the city. Bring along your own home packed basket or delight in the home baked pies, pastries, hot dogs and smokies freshly prepared by the locals. Waiting to greet us as we arrive in the beautiful community of Grosse Isle is Winnipeg favourite Sleepy the Clown! Pick up a freshly prepared hotdog or smokie and some sweet treats, then find your seat as we prepare for Sleepy’s show which includes juggling, magic and hilarious clown comedy. Returning to the PDCR family after rave reviews in 2017, be sure to book early. After the show take time to visit the local vendors selling their crafts and walk through the beautifully restored Heritage Village.

As we quietly sneak up the line, we are hoping to throw these pesky robbers of the scent with our later departure time! Enjoy our onboard entertainment as we make our way to the rural community of Grosse Isle, tap your toes as the Audayo Brothers make their way through the coaches. We are hoping for an uninterrupted ride as we arrive to a delicious supper of Pork in a Bun and Salad. Take a stroll through the wonderfully restored Heritage Village and appreciate more live music as we wrap up this fun filled and fully interactive trip.

Hosted by Manitoba’s favourite Information Super Station, CJOB and featuring one of Winnipeg’s favourite radio personalities. Throughout the trip, visit with the radio personality as we travel from Inkster Junction Station to the beautiful community of Grosse Isle. On arrival visit the local vendors displaying their hand-crafted items or treat yourself to the freshly prepared hotdogs, smokies and baked goods on offer. Stroll through the beautifully restored Heritage House, East Rosser School and Grosse Isle United Church. This ride is a fun and interactive trip enjoyed by everyone!

We recommend that you arrive early and take plenty of time to enjoy the PT Cruisers and model airplanes on display at Inkster Junction Station. Take time to walk around and chat with the enthusiastic volunteers who operate and maintain the vehicles and model planes. When it’s time to leave and the Conductor calls all aboard, hop onboard for our trip up the line to Grosse Isle. Enjoy the sights and sounds as we make our way through the prairies and kick back and tap your toes to the live onboard music by PDC favourites The Audayo Brothers. Appreciate the slow pace of the stopover, climb through the cab of the Diesel locomotive or take a closer look at the vehicles that have followed us up the track. Pick up a freshly prepared hotdog, smokie or some made-from-scratch baking before we head back to the city.
